    Notes:

    Peter was the oldest of 15 children born to Pardon Mawney and Experience Gardner of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Based on the naming history within the family, his middle name was likely LeMoine, the French surname of the family before it was anglicized to Mawney. He married Zeruah PATCHIN, and with her had six known children, all born in New York. According to the obituary of Dr. Billy J. Clark, Peter L. Mawney had a licensed tavern in Moreau, New York. A new temperance society being established by Dr. Clark held its preliminary meeting at this tavern on 13 April 1808. Peter, his wife Zeruah, and five of their six children are buried in this cemetery.

    Mary was the sixth of 15 children born to Pardon Mawney and Experience Gardner of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She was married in South Kingstown, RI on 9 July 1810 to Elisha Reynolds Potter, the son of Colonel Thomas Potter and Elizabeth Reynolds. Elisha had previously been married to Mary (Gardner) Perkins who died in 1809. Elisha R. Potter was a member of the U.S. Congress 1796-7 and 1809-15, and in 1818 an unsuccessful candidate for State Governor. He was a very large man with a vigorous personality, according to his son, Elisha.

From 1843 to 1845 he served as Representative from Rhode Island in the United States Congress. He then returned to state politics, serving as a Rhode Island State Senator from 1847 to 1852 and again from 1861 to 1863. He was also the Rhode Island Public School Commissioner from 1849 to 1854 and served as an Associate Justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court from 1868 until his death. He was the son of Congressman Elisha Reynolds Potter.
