    Perry Mason Collins graduated from Menlo High School in 1920. Perry and his wife Helen K. Fritz Collins, lived in Slater one year then Des Moines until 1938 when the couple moved to Algona, Iowa. Perry was a farmer after graduation and the became one of the first full-time employees of Pioneer Hi-Bred Corn Company. From 1931-1966, Perry was a corn breeder and salesman. Perry helped originate the Pioneer Research Station in Algona and was involved in the company decision to locate a production plant in Algona. Perry attended Iowa State University for a short time and later gave a presentation to a University Conference on climatology. Perry retired in 1966. The following year Pioneer asked him to travel to Pakistan to assess the potential of growing corn in their harsh climate. Following his retirement, he continued his personal corn experiments in Algona. Perry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Algona where he served his church in many positions of leadership and taught an adult Sunday School class for many years. Perry joined Rotary in 1941, was president from 1959-1960 and more recently was an honoray member. He served on the Algona School Board from 1948-1960 and was president for several of those years. Perry was a member of the board of directors of the Iowa School Board Association for three years. Perry enjoyed needlework and the challenge of crossword puzzles. Perry entered Algona Manor Care Center October 30, 1992. FolFollowing a short illness, he died at Kossuth County Hospital on Monday, at the age of 90 years, 8 months and 1 day. He is survived by his wife Helen of Algona, one son Dale of Sulphur, Louisiana and a daughter, Carol Hutzell of Algona as well as 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.     Perry married Helen Kathryn Fritz on 22 Feb 1931. Helen (daughter of Clarence Richard Fritz and Edith Claire Henkle) was born on 21 Jan 1905 in Winterset, Madison County, Iowa, USA; died on 26 Aug 1995 in Mason City, Iowa; was buried on 29 Aug 1995 in Algona, Iowa. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
