This is a precious volume that describes the James and Margaret (Green) Tripp family, and their descendants. It corroborates information, above, and children's birthdates and places; per PLT ARCHIVES, V26. It gives RI as his birthplace. I'm hesitant to change the master record because it is under that place the ordinance work was done. Further research could verify the city and county, then I'd change it. 8)History of Seneca County, page 81, tells of arrival of James Tripp, "about 1800 James Tripp and family (came) from Washington County, N.Y." He lived on lot 66 in Waterloo township, with lot 67 having the Friends Meeting house. He was a member, so also Henry Bonnel "and wife, daughter Mary and son Jacob". A added incentive for there to be a close connection with the Bonnell's. 9)"Thomas, Jonathan and James, sons of William, served in the militia" per Valentine, p 186. 10)Avery, p4, speaks of "a fault which has had an influence on a large portion of their posterity. . a difference of opinion on religious matters". He was Quaker, Margaret was Methodist. "She always seemed to think her views were the correct ones. . .     Notes:

    Bock: Jonathan Tripp is listed in Queensbury Town, Washington County, New York in 1790 with 1 male overe 16 and 1 female and in 1800. Jonathan of Queensbury, Washington County purchased land in Junius in 1806, signed by his brother James Tripp who was known to be son of William of Queensbury. In 1823, some disputed land owned by Jonathan in Lots 20 and 34 was returned to his widow Olive. He was killed in his own sawmill while attempting repairs and was not discovered until the next day.

    Analysis of Census Data shows that he had 8 children, 4 males and 4 females.

    Rachel is positively identified, and other children seem to include Thomas, Benejah (who lived on Lot 20- and Asa. (Valentine [see William 134] [Benejah's will on p. 115;

    By process of elimination, I conclude the Charles Tripp, present at Jonathan's inventory, 1820, is a son of Jonathan (rather than Jonathan's nephew, --James' son--Charles) along with Thomas; and, that the James present is Jonathan's brother. This fits, assumimg earlier logical assignments (of xx,xx,xx) are correct. What I mean is, there is only one remaining son of Jonathan to give a name, and this Charles I assume is Jonathan's son, fits only here because this is the last male child of Jonathan's I have not logically matched to an existing TRIPP in census or other record in Seneca County. August 13, 1987: On 15 Feb 1859 there was a marriage at res ofHon. Charles Tripp in Dexter, Washtenaw, Mich. Maybe this is why Charles does not show up in later life in Seneca Co. Is he with his brother Thomas in Washtenaw Co? (From Michigan Argus, 18 Feb 1859)

Russell [Elizabeth is daughter to Thomas and Nancy Tripp]; and Ellen and George. Ellen and George are possibly children of Perigo's second wife, which I note in that family notes, the first child.     August 10, 1987: Chas Quick's research, Cem Record, Oakwood Cem, Saline, Washtenaw, Mi gives Samuel Tripp, D 22Nov1852, aged 59y6m24d, and wife Sibyl d14Jun1855, aged 56y4m. I conclude these two Samuels are probably the same person and make them the same persons.

    From p1384, Hist Wash Co, V2, "American House", built 1833, sold first to Eben Spraque, then to Samuel Tripp who sold it to John Kanouse in 1853.

    Avery book clearly identifies Samuel, p23. Samuel lived on "grandfather's homestead" until grandfather's death [25 Apr 1835], after which "he sold the farm and went to Michigan". He had a "kind, genial and happy disposition and [a] fine voice for singing," yet "died a victim to the intoxicating cup a long time ago. Aunt Sibyl. . . died a similar death". The obit of his son, Sidney, tells a similar sad story. PLT

    His wife of 1850 is named Mary, while wife at 1860, same age, is Catharine. I give him two wives, and change the birth year of Catharine (named Katherine in 1896 Petition) to correspond with the Petition, ignoring the age 60 in 1860 census (partly because I accept the Petition age; partly because the new wife, Catharine has children more fit for a 40 year old, not a 60 year old. An eyeball on the original census might confirm this logic. I estimate his death about 1865 because he is on the 1860 census, and only Catherine on the 1870 census.

    Note the 1850 census appears to show a 100 year old resident, whose name was unclear to my researcher, who gave "Drinking". This needs an "eyeball" inspection to obtain the name of the grandfather (likely), b 1750!, of Caleb.

    ! 1850 census, he is a cooper. This Calvin, b est 1810, is most likely a son of Jonathan, because Jonathan has a son aged "to 10", in the 1820 census of Jonathan. He could not be a son of William (RIN642), because William had NO son born 18110 through 1815. He is NOT son of James. Therefore, I place him in Jonathan's family. Also, in the 1840 census of Calvin, there is a 50 to 60 year old female, who I assume is Olive, who otherwise disappears in the 1840 census. As a result of this assumption, I presume Olive is natural mother to Calvin, and the logical break in children is at the 1799 to 1805 era when Jonathan apparently had no children. Thus, I conclude Olive married Jonathan about 1803, and I give her all his children from 1805 onward.
