Governor of Arizona, 1951-55; defeated, 1954; speaker, Republican National Convention, 1952. Suffered a stroke, and died about a month later, in hospital at Tempe, Maricopa County, Ariz., November 29, 1987 (age 81 years, 249 days). Interment at Double Butte Cemetery, Tempe, Ariz.
