  Andrew Cross Trippe was educated at Lafayette College from which he received the degree of A.B., 1857, and A.M., 1860; admitted to the Bar, 1860. In 1862 joined Captain William H. Murray's famous Maryland Company, C.S.A.; was Lieutenant of Artillery and Ordnance Officer to Maryland Line, C.S.A., 1863; severely wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg, 3d July, 1863; Colonel and Aide-de-Camp to Governor Robert M. McLane of Maryland, 1884; Colonel and Aide-de-Camp to Governor Henry Lloyd of Maryland, 1885-8; Major-General Commanding Maryland Division United Confederate Veterans, 1898.
