    • Extensive biog in Illus Album of Biogr of SW Minn, Chicago, 1889. Registrar of Deeds in Pipestone Co at publication. Youth on farm, attended Granville Academy, began teaching at age 17, worked For Amer. Tract Soc. in Warren Co NY, in 1855 to Elmira, NY, worked as bookkeeper for stepbrother B G Carpenter. 1857 moved w to Saratoga, Winona Co. , taught school, farmed with brother George F. Elected to Twp clerk for 13 yrs. In Feb 1864 enlisted in Co K, 9th Regt. Minn Vol Inf, served 5 mos., disability disch at Benton Barracks, MO. Farmed until moving to Pipestone Co 1878 on 160 A in Osborn Twp. In politics locally, incl 4+ yrs supt of schools, 1866 Regist of deeds. 17 June 1882 home property destroyed by tornado (cyclone in book). Republican, Congregational Ch., etc.
