  He was a Civil War soldier, enlisting in Fall 1863 in Co. "G," 14th Mich. Vol. Inf. He was with Sherman on his march to the sea. He lived in Cedar Springs, then Pierson, then Grand Rapids where he was a druggist. He was a mathematician and wrote several books. In 1896 they lived in Chicago, where he was Chief of the Order of the Magi.
