  James Monroe Ladd was born in Unity New Hampshire June 1, 1818. He married Sarah Graves March 23, 1842. His youth and young manhood was spent in the town of his birth. He was engaged in teaching school and working at his trade of shoemaking. In 1856 they moved to Oneida, Knox County Illinois and engaged in farming. In 1881 they moved to Albion, Nebraska. Their children had preceeded them. He died March 11, 1889. She died June 30, 1910. Both are buried in the Ladd plot at Albion, Nebraska. They had four children.
