  References: Randall, Abiel manuscript from the New Bedford Library; Breffni Whelan, descendant specializing on daughters and their offspring; Bock: The will of Rebecca Scranton of Newport, widow, dated April 10, 1787, proved June 4, 1787, mentioned sister Polly Tripp and Mary Tripp, wife of Abial Tripp (? same) (2:29-30 in RIGR 7:25). His estate was administered by widow (Warren Probates 2:193; Mercury, issue of December 11, 1798 in Arnold 11:66, called formerly of Newport). Indenture i in Tiverton signed by Abiel and Mary Tripp in 1771. In Tiverton 1774 Census, and Abiel had a family of 3 males over 16; in 1800, male of 45 with wife, 2 sons and 5 daughters; in 1810, male over 45 with 5 males and 6 females, 8 still under age 15. Valentine stated he was later of Dutchess County New York (Whalen A86; Warren Probates 2:193; Randall, Abiel Tripp 2-3; Portsmouth VR 1:183; Arnold 4:103;7:370; Valentine 81,190,78).
