His will, written in North Providence on 2-10-1780 and proved there April 1, 1780 (North Providence Council and Probate Rec. A:204) was witnessed by Edward Tripp Junior, who was not mentioned in will and was not a son as will specified "two sons" of the testator; his relationship unknown. Wife Susannah received her thirds; his two sons John and Seth had real estate in North Providence and Johnston. The personal estate was divided among these sons and 5 daughters (Susannah Smith, Anne Smith, Sara Potter, Mary Angell and Elizabeth Mathewson).
The inventory was dated 29 March 1780 and an account filed on December 2, 1793 (ibid A:2209,350). He was possibly the Edward who served in the campaign of 1761 (Howard M. Chapin, "Rhode Island in the Colonial Wars-A List of Rhode Island Soldiers and Sailors in the Old Fr and Ind War 1755-1762" ( Prov 1918) 141).
He was at the General Assembly Newport May 4th 1736, of Providence and was admitted as freeman (John Russell Bartlett, ed, "R"Records of the Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations in New England" (Prov. 1859) 4:518. (Randall, John Tripp, 2,4; Providence VR 5:546;1 Arnold 2:276 930B,303); Probate rec; Freda Beach, 644 North Screenland Drive, Burbank CA 91505. Robert M. Sherman, ed., "Mayflower Fam Through five Gen, 2: James Chilton"... (Plymouth MA 1978) 317-4;
DAR Patriot Index, 588, dates as 1715-1780; Tripp Trails 2:25; Maurine Krohne).
