Notes - Bock: A Robert Tripp was a soldier in the expedition against Louisburg in 1745 in Edward Cole's Company, 7th Massachusetts Regiment, and this may be he (RE Register 25:261 [1871]).
He is identified by Randall as the same Robert Tripp who, as a resident of Beaufort County North Carolina was a delegate to the Provincial Congress November 12, 1776 (William Saunders, The Colonial Records of North Carolina, 10 [Goldsboro NC 1890] 913,915,960), a member of the State Assembly in 1779 (Walter Clark, The State Records of NC 13 [Goldsboro NC, 1896) 784-1000 passim) and the owner of large tracts of land in the county as early as July 2, 1762 (Beaufort County Deeds 3:562, July 2, 1762, recorded 1763 (300 A.).
In the county tax lists for 1779 the value of all his holdings was 6,960. In 1784, 1786 and 1789 he holds 400 Acres.
It should be kept in mind that there was a John Tripp in Beaufort County as early as October 2, 1722, whose son William m. Eleanor, daughter of Sheriff William Peyton (S. Wingate Reed, Beaufort County: Two Centuries of Its History [Raleigh NC, 1962] 82,116-7,164,217-8).
Given the existence of this other family of Tripp, and the alleged age of Robert when the children of Robert and Grace Tripp were born, Randall's attribution cannot be deemed proven.
The will of Robert Tripp of Beaufort County was dated October 30, 1800, with no probate date given; it names his wife Grace, son John as executor and mentions sons Joseph, William and Robert and daughter Barbara Lovett and Mary Reel, as well as a child in utero (if the Robert of Providence, he was almost 80 years old.
According to Randall, he m/1--Williams; m/2--Williams. Issue by 3rd wife only. (Index of Rev War Pension Applications-S35356; Randall, James Tripp 8, 12; DAR Patriots Index 688).
NOTE: Y-DNA from a descendant of this Robert4 Tripp (Robert3, James2, John1 Tripp) matches other descendants of Robert3, James2, John1 Tripp. 6-13-2021 Janet Tripp Andrews
