    • Herman Graves Shedd is my Grandfather. I was named after him. I was his first grandson. He hoovered over me like a mother hen over her chickens, and taught me much, particularly in carpentry. One look at his pictures, and you immediately get the feeling that he was a cocky, self reliant person, and no one was going to tell him much of anything. If you felt that way about his pictures, you knew him pretty well, because that was my Grandpa!! He was five foot 2 inches of determinination, as long as I knew him and I suspect since birth. His favorite saying to me after making or accomplishing something was, "Just look who did it"! I appreciated his self reliance, and I strongly suspect that I inherited some of it!! His determination must have come from his father who journed from New Hampshire to Oregon with oxen. Some determination!! Grandpa died at age 84 years, 4 months, and 15 days, every day of which everyone around him was aware of!! Herman William Tripp--Remembering----

I discovered in 1992 that he was probably named after his uncle, Hermon Shedd, who died in the Civil War, and is buried in the Whitehouse Landing Cemetery. Hermon William Tripp--Remembering----
