Notes
The following is a copy of Samuel's obiturary notice provided by Myrtle Mae Church Jonasson: Janesville Daily Gazette, May 26, 1873.-Samuel Church of Rock County died last night at the advanced age of eighty-eight. Accumulated years was the cause of his death and he passed away gently and without pain. The deceased came to this county twenty-three years ago and has lived here ever since his arrival. During the sixty years of his life he had been a member of the Masonic order. He was ththe father of James Church of this city and W.H. Church of Afton. From a page in Harriet Tripp Church's family Bible: Grandfather Samuel Church was a native of Vermont, USA was married to Harriet Tripp a native of Pennsylvania and soon after made their home on a farm in Wisconsin 6 miles south of Janesville, Wisconsin and remained until a few years of his death in the year 1873 March 25 at the age of 88 years, the oldest man in the county of Rock, Wisconsin. They were the parents of nine children one of the dying in infancy. At this date October 26 1939, none are living. Grandmother, Harriet Church, after grandfather's death made her home with her daughter Mrs. laurence Flynn until her death in her 82 year and was buried at Albany, Oregon. Heart failure suddenly ended a very useful life. Belonged to the Presbyterian Church. Granddaughter of Grandma Harriet Church is Harriet Church in 1940 May."
