  2022-CD: Her maternal aunt Bessie Lenore Pease raised Velma from the age of one month after her mother Annette's death. Bessie married three times. Velma took the surname of the second husband in the 1910 census [Velma R Eiler] and of the third husband in the 1920 census [Velma R Drechsel]. #254445 Cuyahoga Co., OH Velma married using the Drechsel surname. [says "(adopt" in top rt. corner, Drechsel=stepdad, 3rd husband of Bessie] She gave her parents as Oscar Eiler and Bessie Pease--mixing names! Her obituary gave her maiden name as Eiler Drechsel. Her biological father, Byron A Tripp listed her as a daughter in his obit. [See obit on findagrave] One paragraph about her "adoption": "Annette died when Velma was 3 weeks old and Annette's sister, Bessie, and her husband, Oscar Eiler, raised Velma as their child. The rest of the family was sworn to secrecy and Velma didn't find out that she was adopted until she was 47 years old, when she applied for a Social Security card and needed to produce her birth certificate.
