1)James Tripp family group obtained from Family Bible of James Tripp, in possession of Mrs. Harvey Tripp, 13 Spruce St., Hornell, NY, about 1965.

2)Other information obtained from 1790/1800 census Washington County, NY; 1810/1820 Census, Junius, Seneca county, NY; TRIPP WILLS DEEDS AND WAYS, by Valentine, p 87,186,148,151; A HISTORY OF THE TOWN OF QUEENSBURY, by Holden, p 130, 503.

7)"The Tripp Family", by Lucinda R. Tripp Avery, Cohocton, NY, THE COHOCTON INDEX, 1897. This is a precious volume that describes the James and Margaret (Green) Tripp family, and their descendants. It corroborates information, above, and children's birthdates and places; per PLT ARCHIVES, V26. It gives RI as his birthplace. I'm hesitant to change the master record because it is under that place the ordinance work was done. Further research could verify the city and county, then I'd change it. 8)History of Seneca County, page 81, tells of arrival of James Tripp, "about 1800 James Tripp and family (came) from Washington County, N.Y." He lived on lot 66 in Waterloo township, with lot 67 having the Friends Meeting house. He was a member, so also Henry Bonnel "and wife, daughter Mary and son Jacob". A added incentive for there to be a close connection with the Bonnell's. 9)"Thomas, Jonathan and James, sons of William, served in the militia" per Valentine, p 186. 10)Avery, p4, speaks of "a fault which has had an influence on a large portion of their posterity. . a difference of opinion on religious matters". He was Quaker, Margaret was Methodist. "She always seemed to think her views were the correct ones. . . As grandmother was usually the aggressor the children took sides with their father, resulting in a disgust for Christianity and unbelief in religion". 11)Junius Friends Meeting record, NGSO 69:15-26, years 1815-1863, (1981), and in PLT Archives, V21, per Chas Quick, gives birth date for James 15 Jan 1765 and death date 22 Apr 1835. 12)On list of voters 2May1786,p391,per History of Warren Co, NY, w/ notes now in PLT Archives,V17. 14)per History of Queensbury (Washington Co, NY), by Holden, per PLT research of 24Feb1967, now in PLT ARCHIVES, V17: James "Overseer of Highways" in 1804; listed on Military Warrant for Regimental Parade, 25 Jun 1787. There is also a description of James' framed house built on Sanfords Ridge. 15)James lived on 76 acres of land, worth 5 pounds an acre, with house not finished but worth $220, 1785-1790, per p327, History of Glens Falls, by Hyde, 1936, PLT ARCHIVES, V17. 16)James as overseer of highways: 1 Mar 1803; 6 Mar 1804(One of 3 Comm of Hwys) 1810 Dist 10; 1811 Comm of Hwys; per Minutes of Junius Town Meeting 1803-1824, per PLT ARCHIVES, V21.

    Notes:

)Will proved after 1789, per Valentine, p ? 2)"He sold the Tiverton farm to his brother, but the deed whose wording intimates that the wife signed the deed, was not actually signed by herer. Most of the children were born in Tiverton, but it is inferred that the mother died before the removal (to Queensbury) William settled on the Half Way Brook not so far west of Glen Falls, NY. William and his son Jonathan held each 125 acreres of land, which was released from Quit Rents after the Revolutionary War, because of their losses at the hands of the Indians and the Tories; all improvements having been burned. Both farms were on Lot Eleven. Local records are very few, for this reason: But at the old Salem of that county, high among its snowy hills, in midwinter, I was so fortunate as to find the will of this William. In Tiverton I found his yellowed deed of sale." Valentine, p177-8. 3)"Most of the children" per Valentine, suggests there were more than the three sons, which would be more ordinary. I suppose there were daughters. PLT. 4)An extract of William's will, total text in Valentine, p123: Date 2 Mar 1789, William, of Queensbury. . I give 100 acres each to "two" beloved sons Jonathan and James. . and to son Thomas the obligations (to William) of Augustus Odle . . give to wife all remaining part of my farm, untill my beloved son, William becomes of lawful age, later to be equally diviided between her and William(when he comes of age). Unless she remarries, in which case whole remaining farm goes to William. Appoint wife Lois Tripp and George Southwick executors. David, Rachel and Philip Ferriss, witnesses. 3) Census, 1800, age "over 45", per PLT ARCHIVES, V16, CENSUS, p23. 4)On list of voters 2May1786,p391,per History of Warren Co,NY,w/ notes now in PLT Archives,V17. On p394, he is listed, 1Apr1790, as pleading "inability to pay Quit Rents due to losses during war". 125 Acres, Lot #11. 5)1Apr1790, William "paid some money",per page 506 of History of Queensbury (Washington Co, NY), by Holden, per PLT research of 24Feb1967, now in PLT ARCHIVES, V17. On p 503, there was an election that references his name. 6)William lived on 86 acres of land, worth $15, with house not finished but worth $125, 1785-1790, per p327, History of Glens Fally, by Hyde, 1936, PLT ARCHIVES, V17.

Exact sequence of children, birthdates, are estimates. Only names are given in the record o of Ruth Tripp Neal, now in V18, PLT ARCHIVES.

One record, V18 OF PLT ARCHIVES, gives 16 Apr 1747 as marriage date of Thomas and Tamson. Not possible, for son William had to be born about 1737. I assign "about 1736" as marriage date for them. PLT (That source is likely Valentine, p185.)

1774 NEWPORT RI CENSUS THOMAS TRIPP: 1 M >16; 2 F >16; 1 INDIAN, PLT ARCHIVES, V16: I don't know if this is the correct person, but at age 55, he would fit this household, and with three daughters over 16, anyone living at home with his wife would complete the household. There is also a William as separate head of household. PLT ARCHIVES

Per Valentine, p185, "removed to NY state" later in life, probably Queensbury, where his son William settled. Bock: Eunice, m.? ? Manchester, is given as child also in Randall. 1) Somewhere I have a birth date of 22 Jun 1684, and that all ordinance work is done. Such dates may be different than those with this record. The endowment date I supplied could not be verified, hence a new endowment was "cleared".

    2) p76, Valentine, Abiel was given right to operate the ferry between RI and Bristol. This was an important ferry. Abiel rooted himself in Tiverton, as his father did. "Before coming of age, young Abiel allied himself with Eleanor Waite. They were married the day after her 16th birthday. The two were cousins; Eleanor's mother having been born Mary Tripp. They lived at Tiverton. Of course, there was a namesake for Abiel, the father and for the young grandfather (now more than twenty years dead), but this child, born in 1707, died in infancy."

3)p185 of Valentine names sons and daughters of Abiel. Bock: He is listed as freeman in Portsmouth in 1748. (MacGunnide, RI Freemen 1747-1755; Portsmouth VR 1:4; 1:199; Portsmouth TC Rec., 4:435; Arnold 4:102,46).
