    Notes:

2012-Apr: "Proving the connection for Moses to Joshua Tripp was not quite as straight forward. The dates of Moses' birth and death are too early for finding any public documents, and a marriage record for Moses, which might name parents, was not found. The document that indicates a connection for Moses to Joshua is the 1850 census in which Moses, age 17, was in the household of Joshua Tripp, age 45, in Pitt County, NC. This was the only Moses in NC of the right age. Other members of the household were Elea Tripp (female), age 50, Joshua Tripp, age 14, and Benjamin Ringgold, age 12. It is possible that Elea was the wife of Joshua, but she was not listed next to him, but after Moses and before Joshua. This may indicate she was the wife of Joshua, but not the mother of Moses. Next door to Joshua was an older Moses Tripp of an age to be Joshua's brother. On the other side of Moses Tripp (two doors away from Joshua) was Allie Tice, age 30, with five children: Cullen (12), Wm. H. (9), Henry (8), Charles (6) and Lanier Tice (8/12). The question is raised as to whether or not this might have been the Ally Tyson mentioned on the "Tripp Family Tree" pedigree chart as the mother of Moses. If so, this raises more questions which will need to be addressed at a future time. "(Genealogical Services Price and Associates Inc. for Vicky Byrd)

From Betty G. Tripp, Orangeburg, South Carolina, abstracts used to support DOB, Place of Birth, and parents are: Insurance policy issued by the Security Trust and Life Inc. Co.; family Bible in possession of Moses Tripp; affidavit of personal knowledge by Duncan James Fowler (an older cousin) of Dunn, North Carolina and delayed certificate of birth found in Lillington, North Carolina courthouse, Harnett County.
Moses Tripp and his family perhaps lived in Harnett County, North Carolina. All of the children however were born in Pitt County, North Carolina. (Herman William Tripp)

More about Joshua Tripp, Senior: 1. In 1850, he was in Griffin's District Pitt County North Carolina. 2. Died intestate; Bryant Tripp administrator; $500 Caleb B. Tripp, security. Occupation: 1850, Farmer (Source 1850 Census) from Janus Tripp Gurganus.

Remarried to a Tyson who died before 1850. In 1880 census, Allie Tyson was living with her son William Henry Tripp (1880 census) and is shown to be 76 years old.

Note: The ages of the oldest children suggest the possibility that Allie was a second wife. That might explain why only the younger, William Henry, moved with Allie by 1850. In the Tyson home in the 1850 census, William Henry was listed as a Tyson, but other records show him to have the surname Tripp.

Allie was the first "wife" of Joshua Tripp (born ca. 1806, died 1870). It is unclear if they officially married; he married Penelope "Penny" Moye in January 1852 in Pitt County, North Carolina. Allie's children with Joshua included Moses, Cullen, William "Henry", Charles R., and Lynn (AKA Lanier, Linwood, and other "L" names).

Allie was still alive as of the 1880 U.S. Census, when she was enumerated in Greenville Township, Pitt County, North Carolina, in the home of her son, William Henry Tripp.
