    The highschool football field in Union County, Kentucky is named Baker Field. It was named in honor of Lewis Baker, a grandson of Roxie Owens. Herman William Tripp--Remembering......1st Cousin, two generations removed Roxie In a letter from Deb Woodhouse, Springdale Arkansas several interestin items were listed that I will attach in the momost practical places, namely in the notes of ths individual mentioned. Roxie Owens and James Brown were married in the Walnut Grove Church which was built by her father Matthew Henry Owens. The wedding took place on a Sunday morning between 9 am and 10 am. Two of their twelve children that died young are buried in the Brown Cememtery in Webster County, Kentucky.

    Mathew Henry Owens' occupation was a Church of Christ preacher, carpenter and possibly a school teacher for a short time in Indiana. He loved to read. Mathew found in the 1870 census of Unon County, Hills Precinct, Kentucky in 1840, 1850. He liived in Webster County Kentucky in 1880. Died at his son Sylvester's house. Nancy: in 1880 Nancy and Mathew were living in Webster County, Kentucky in the 'Dixon District.     Nancy Jane Tripp is my 1st Great Grandaunt. Omer Owens was Nancy Jane Tripp Owens' Grandson. Nancy Jane was living with his family when she died in 1916. For me, it was like hearing from the far distant past. We had not known of this family foor over 100 years. Omer took Clara and I to her gravesite in the Oak Grove Cemetery, near Bordley, Kentucky. We had to push over some bushes and dig through the underbrush, and we found her foot stone N. J. O. Omer knew where it was. He was there when they buried her!! He remembered how hard it was for the men to dig the grave. It was January and very cold. Omer took me through the trees, down through a gulley close by and up on a ridge where the house had been when they were living there. The trees that he remembered were still there, but much larger. Some of the old flower beds were still there, as was the old hand dug well. It was like going back in time! As I stood by those old trees and looked down the little valllley I could almost see My Great Grandfather David, his brothers Zacheus, and William farming here so long ago! It is a pretty little valley and I will not forget it! Herman William Tripp--Remembering---- The 1850 cesus shows that Nancncy Jane was living with or near her Aunt Polly Tripp Millard. Her brother Zacheus was living nearby in the home of Aunt Polly's daughter, Martha Jane, wife of a Doctor S. M. Mitchell. We believe that Zacheus was farming land owned by the doctor. Clara and I found the stone of Martha Jane Millard Pease Mitchell on a nearby hill graveyard, near Blairsville, Posey County, Indiana.
