Noel Angell is my 4th Cousin, 4 times removed. In 1805, He purchased 115 Acres of land in Bridgewater Hollow from Oliver Williams of Woodstock. The purchase price was $287.50 and the deed was recorded on October 29, 1805. At the time he and his young family were living in Wendell, New Hampshire ( now Sunapee ) and it appears that the entire family may not have permanently moved to Vermont until after 1810, as some appeared in the 1800 and 1810 Census in Wendell. It is recorded that his oldest daughter, Polly, married Benjamin Woodward in Bridgewater on 18 October 1809. Noel Senior appears in the 1813 Bridgewater ( Tax? ) Book, page 411, as paying taxes on 65 acres and son Colburn taxes on 50 acres, both totalling the original 115. Brothers, Stukely, Hezekiah, Esek, and Abner appear on the same list: Stukely with 50 acres bounded South on Whitney Thayer lot, Hezekiah 200 Acres, Esek 87 acres bounded South by North. Angell, Abner ? acres bounded on the South by Samuel Woodward. Noel was bounded East by South Angell and West by Joshua Whitney. Further it is mentioned that Stukely, Esek, and Noel live on the lots indicated. What is belived to be the cellar hole of Noel's home in Bridgewater Hollow was visited by some of the Rice and Hammond families in October 1994 (beautiful spot); previously pointed out to GJR by Ira Stevens who owns a little corner of what had been Noel's land. The cellarhole is located about 300 feet west of the right hand (eaasterly) trail and just n/w of two parallel stone walls running in a south westerly direction that must have had a road between them. The two old roads, now Vast ( Vermont Association of Snow Travelers) snowmobile trails, steeply decend as a sort of "V: from the Applachion trail along the top of the rim surrounding the "Hollow" and enter, only yards apart, the clearing below the recently constructed log home of Ira Stevens which at the present time is the last place on the travled road. The "Hollow" itself is also quite elevated and it's access is a steep road cut in the side of an equally steep hill above a tumbling brook which also descends from the :"Hollow". The settlers in the early days of Vermont must have really wanted to be away from the misty dews and damps of the valleys. I believe most ot the land in the vicinity is now owned by a Whitney family?) and only a couple of year round homes, where 150 years ago there was a thriving farming district, with its oown school. Noel and Hannah are probably buried in one of the many unmarked graves in the Angell cemetery in the Hollow, where also is buried Hannah's sister Sarah a.k.a. "Sala", the wife of Stuckley Angell ( he died and was buried about 30 years later in Rochester, Vermont wher he had gone to live with one of his sons). Reference Angell Genealogy by Avery F. Angell-Greene 1872, "Eber Angell with Solomon and Gideon went to New Hampshire in early life to make a settlement. Gideon staid, but the other two returned. Gideon is heard from a few years later as a prosperous farmer in Wendall, New Hampshire. Solomon returns and settles in his native town. Here we loose sight of Eber. He was married in Rhode Island and the author found but 2 individuals who knew the name of his wife. One said he had no children, the other knew nothing of this. On my inwquiring of a minister from New Hampshire, if he knew anybody by the name of Angell in his State, he replied that one Ira Angell lived in Bridgewater, Vermont. On writing to him he proves to be the son of Abner and Grandson of Eber Angell who has not been heard from in Rhode Island probably for nearly 100 years. Ira has given information of his grandfather's family and those of some of the next two generations. Whatever we know of the descendants of Eber comes from Ira." "Ira says Eber was married Aug 20, 1762 and settled in Wendall, New Hampshire about the year 1770. The statements I have made in relation to Eber, Solomon and Gideon in regard to their going to New Hampshire were given me by Lemuel Angell of North Providence two or three years ago. Ira says he has part of the record. Eber wrote while in Smithfield, Rhode Island which is badly worn. He says he is the son of Abner and has no father, mother, brother or sister or children living. He has long been a trader in produce and West India goods. His place of busines is Bridgewater, Windsor County, Vermont." According to some records Benjamin also accompanied his 3 brothers to Wendall, he must have returned befefore the birth of his children, for there are none recorded in Wendell. I have not found ( as of March 1995 ) any death record for Eber or Jerusha, nor any indication that he was made a freeman in Bridgewater, Vermont where were many of his sons and grandsons. Possibly they died shortly after arrival and are buried in one of the many unmarked graves in the Agell Cemetery in Bridgewater Hollow. Maybe they returned to Rhode Island for there is no record of his or Jerusha dying in Wendell and there is no mention of their graves in that area. There is some evidence that his father- in law, Eliphalet Eddy was in Clarendon, Vermont in the 1790's with his blacksmith son, Thomas Eddy, half brother to Jerusa.

Eber married Jerusha Eddy on 26 Aug 1761 in Smithfield, Rhode Island. Jerusha (daughter of Eliphalet Eddy and Phebe King) was born on 07 Aug 1740 in Smithfield, Rhode Island. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
