This website is dedicated to the descendants of John and Mary (Paine) Tripp of Portsmouth, Rhode Island.
The first Tripp to come to America has been appropriately called “The Founder,” because he is the ancestor of most of us.
He was baptized 8 September, 1611 in Horkstow, Lincolnshire, England a son of John and Isabel (Moses). About 1639 he married Mary Paine and they raised 10 children. His will is dated sixth day of the tenth month, 1677 and was proved the 28 day of October, 1678 in Portsmouth, Newport County, Rhode Island.
We include other Tripp lines: Sylvanus Tripp of Kittery, Maine, Nicholas Tripp of North Carolina, Ann Tripp (sister of John of Portsmouth) and many other individuals with the surname of Tripp who immigrated to this country.
Please e-mail us with your line of descent before leaving. This will make it easier for others to contact you and compare notes. See our Guest Bookachers to contact others researching Tripp lines of descent.
Thank You,
Bob Tripp — Project Creator and Administrator
About
In 2000, Bob Tripp of Logan, Ohio created the The Tripp Family Genealogical Web Site. Ongoing problems with his health prevented him from maintaining the site and by 2010, much of the site was no longer up to date.
In early 2011, Jan Tripp of Ann Arbor, Michigan, working with Bob Tripp moved the site to its new home on the Internet at http://www.TrippGenealogy.org.
In October 2005, the Tripp DNA Project began when a group of John Tripp descendants decided to prove their relationship to John using DNA science. In 2012 the projects was combined with the Tripp Family Genealogical Web Site to complement traditional family research.
The website moved again in November 2012 to a WordPress environment to give it a fresh and modern look.
In 2016, a modern genealogy database based on The Next Generation (TNG) software was added to manage the over 56,00o names. Site visitors can now search the database, generate reports, and download information. The database replaces older, static HTML databases on the website.
In October 2018, The Genealogist journal gave us permission to digitize and put online the three Tripp research articles about the John Tripp (1611-1678) lineage. The only condition is that we cite their source prominently and we do not use the articles commercially.
In January 2019, when Jan E Tripp’s health prevented him from maintaining the Tripp Family Genealogical Web Site and Facebook page, Janet Tripp Andrews and Kristin Tripp Caldwell agreed to maintain the web sites and build a team for ongoing support.
