FIRST GENERATION

1. Ann TRIPP was born in 1599 in Skirbeck, England.1,2 She died WFT Est.

1629-1694.3,4 She was married to Edmond INGALLS (son of Robert INGALLS and

Elizabeth) in Shirbeck, Lincolnshire, England.5 Edmond INGALLS was born on

26 Jun 1586 in Skirbeck, England.6 He resided in 1629 in Lynn, MA.7 He

signed a will on 28 Aug 1648.8 He died on 16 Sep 1648 in Salem, MA.9,10,11

He had an estate probated on 16 Sep 1648.12,13

Drowned in Saugus River, owing to a defective bridge, while going to Boston

on horseback. Heirs recovered damages from the town. Named in FA's will,

"Eldest sonne who was lawfully begot." Came to Salem, MA in Gov. Endicott's

company in 1628 with his brother Francis and four others. He commenced the

settlement of Lynn in 1629. He was a man of good character, but court

records of Jul 20, 1646"20/4/1646, Edmund Ingalls was fined for bringing

home sticks in both his arms on the Sabbath day from Mr. Holyokes rails,

witnesses Joseph fflood, Jane fflood" His name is often found on the town

records showing him to be one of the prominent citizens.

Edmund Ingalls (who came from Lincolnshire, England) was one of the first

settlers of Lynn, MA. These Ingalls, (also his brother Francis) came to

Salem in 1629, and "strayed over" to Lynn the following yer. They set out,

we are told, from Salem with leave to go "where we would" , and having

discovered "a Faire Playne" lying between Salem and Charlestown called

Saugus, they took "peaceable possession.' Ancestors of Harold Foote Ballard

BOWYER) in Lynn, MA.17 Francis DANE was born on 20 Nov 1615 in England.3

He emigrated in 1636 from London, England.19 He resided in 1648 in

Ipswich.2 0 He was ordained after 1648 in Andover, MA.21 He died on

17 Feb 1696/97 in Andover, MA.22,23

He was in danger from the cruel infatuation of 1692 when others of high

rank fled from the suspicion of witchcraft, and of his humbler neighbors,

sheep of his fold, innocent of the nonsense as himsef no a few suffer.

Came with his father in the same ship with Nathaniel Rogers trip from London

to Boston took half a year Elizabeth INGALLS and Francis DANE had the

8 Nov 1738 in Andover, MA.3 He resided in Andover, MA.24

He was married to Hannah POOR (daughter of Daniel POOR(E) and Mary

FARNHAM(FARNUM)) on 16 Nov 1681.3 Hannah POOR was born on 6 May 1660 in

Andover, MA.25,26 She died on 17 Feb 1744/45 in Andover, MA.27 Francis

DANE and Hannah POOR had the following children:

13. Mary DANE was born on 22 Apr 1699 in Andover, MA.10,14

She was married to Jeremiah BALLARD (son of Joseph BALLARD and Rebecca REA)

on 29 Dec 1721.28 Jeremiah BALLARD was born on 29 Mar 1697 in Andover, MA.

Compendium by Frederick Virkus Jeremiah sold the old family place at Andover

in 1735, to his brother-in-law Jospeh Gibson and moved to Lunenburg, then to

Lancaster, then to Concord, where he was living in 1743. At the outbreak of

the war with France in 1744, he entered the military service, serving first

as sergeant and then captain. In 1745 he was in command of a company engaged

in protecting the frontiers of Maine, and his manuscript orders signed by

Governor Shirley are still in existence. In 1749 he moved west to New Salem,

Franklin County, at the foot of the Berkshires. He became one of the most

prominent settlers of that town. In 1738 he was Captain in Colonel Joseph

William's Regiment. In 1750 Jeremiah Meacham and he were granted a license

to erect a sawmill upon the land belonging to them. This mill was built in

the east part of the township, upon the middle branch of Swift River, near

the locality called Buffalo. Ancestors of Harold Foote Ballard Mary DANE

In the Revolutionary War Josiah served as a substitute for his father, and

at the age of sixteen fought his first fight under Ethan Allen at Ticonderoga.

Josiah operated the tavern left him by his father. It was located on 160

acres of land. the tavern sign "Ballard" is now at the New Salem Museum.

Herbert stayed on the farm of his great great grandfather Ancel Shepardson

in Fletcher, VT. After he hurt his right hand and couldn't milk or do heavy

work, he and his third wife, Clarice, bought a small grocery store, which
